Show C SCORE FOR MARS While Japan is talking about her good intentions in Manchuria and denying charges that she plans the conquest of China, America j and Europe, the Japanese j cabinet approves the largest ' military 'budget in the his- j tory of the empire. The total expenditure for; the vear beginning A pril 1, 1 1933, will be $477,800,000. J This means a deficit of i 179,400,000 for which bonds must be issued. The approval of the budget Was over the protest of large Japanese financial interests. It was urged that it would add greatly to the public j debt, threatened currency in-1 flation and meant the further fur-ther decline of the yen. The action of Japan in the face of the Geneva armament arma-ment conference is not very encouraging to those who had hoped for reduction of world armament and relief of taxpayers of all the powers pow-ers which might be reflected in better financial and commercial com-mercial conditions over the world. Of all the great powers, the United States is affected by maintaining present armaments,, arm-aments,, though it is admitted admit-ted that increases must be made in view of world conditions. |
