Adams pled not guilty to the charge when he was given a preliminary pre-liminary hearing at Rockville on Saturday. He was represented by Arthur Woolley of Ogden, and :om the line of questioning of witnesses by the defense attorney, attor-ney, it would indicate that the plea will be self-defense. The state was represented by District Attorney A. L. Larsen of Delta, and County Attorney and District Attorney-elect Ellis J. Pickett. Orval Hafen, county attorney-elect, who will take of' dee in January and win asii1 Pickett in the prosecution, also abided the hearing. The' preliminary was held before be-fore Justice of the Peace Arthur D. Cox and witnesses called included in-cluded Constable Leonard Dal-ton, Dal-ton, Mrs. John Dennett, Dr. E. Clark Mclntyre, Sheriff Wm. Brooks and Deputy Sheriff Andrew An-drew J. IsQm. Tie hearing was largely attended at-tended and was lengthy, lasting from 11 a. m. to after 4 p. m Adams was returned to St. George and is in the county jail. There are five .possible decisions, deci-sions, for the jury which will hear the case in the district court. They may acquit. If found guilty of first degree murder, the sentence is death. If first degree murder with a recommendation recom-mendation for leniency, he would he given life imprisonment. If found guilty of second degree murder the sentence is from one year imprisonment to life; voluntary vol-untary manslaughter, imprisonment imprison-ment for not less than one year nor more than ten; involuntary manslaughter, imprisonment in the county jail for not more I than one year. |
