Show THANKSGIVING TURKS SHIPPED TO LOS ANGELES 2300 Birds Go from Washington Wash-ington County and Growers Grow-ers Will Receive Between 36000 and $6500 for Crop A carload of Washington county turkeys billed to the Los Angeles market, was made up in Cedar City Monday. In the car were 2300 birds grossing about 28,970 pounds, and it is expected that the shipment ship-ment will return growers between $6000 and $6500. K. Sorenson, representing rep-resenting the Utah Poultry Association, Asso-ciation, spent the past week in Washington county assisting the local association through which the birds were marketed. The majority of the turkeys were raised in the vicinity of St. George, although some were brought in from Central, Pine Valley, Val-ley, Hurricane, Rockville, Spring-dale, Spring-dale, La Verkin and the Beaver Dam wash. Utah is becoming more and more a turkey growing state. That is agreed upon by officials of the various associations and companies handling turkeys, by federal agricultural statisticians and growers whose huge flocks sell in the Thanksgiving and Christmas Christ-mas pools. What size the 1929 turkey production pro-duction for Thanksgiving and Christmjas will reach is not yet definitely-known, but from all indications in-dications made by growers it will be considerably larger than the output of Utah last year. The government backs up the belief with the announcement that the 1929 crop is expected to be about 18 per cent larger, based conservatively on reports made by growers on November 1. More than half a million dollars dol-lars was brought into Utah last year by the Utah Poultry Producers' Pro-ducers' association's pool of 135,-000 135,-000 birds. What the 1929 aggregate aggre-gate will be has not been forecast, but it is believed that an even larger sum will be realized with the expected larger crop. |
