Smith Cooperating Cooper-ating in Demonstrations A two-day educational program on pruning fruit trees, and artificially arti-ficially heating orchards will be conducted at Hurricane today and Friday under the direction of Walter F. Smith, county agent; ag-ent; John E. Blazzard, district crop pest inspector, and Professor Profes-sor F. M. Coe, horticultural expert ex-pert from the extension division nf ihc TTtnh aericnltural college. Letters, sent last week from the local agent's office, point out that this is the time when pruning prun-ing should be done on all deciduous decid-uous fruit trees. Immediately following fol-lowing the pruning, a spraying program is in order. On account of the long distance dis-tance from markets and the keen competition, Dixie can only hope to make a success in this industry indus-try by the production of a quality product, carefully grown, guarded from insect pests and properly graded and packed. Fruit production is a very technical and highly specialized industry. In order to be successful success-ful one must constantly study the newer ideas which are being be-ing advanced in this business. Meetings, demonstrations and tours are conducted for the benefit bene-fit of the growers, and their cooperation co-operation is necessary in order to make fruit raising a success in Dixie.
