Show IN ill PARK 10 HMEJflOD ROAD Members of the board of county commissioners. Henry T. Atkin. chairman, of this city, and James Judd of La Verkin went to Spring-dale. Spring-dale. Sunday, where they met with Ed. C. Knowlton, assistant engineer of the state road commission, and B. W. Matheson. assistant federal engineer, en-gineer, of the Ogden office, and went over the new road laid out by the engineers en-gineers between Rockville and Zion park, also going over the right of way from the Rockville bridge to the canyon up which the road to Short Creek runs. The road as laid out will be as straight as it is possible to make. it. At present the road is dangerous because be-cause of its many twists and blind curves added to which it is very narrow nar-row in places without a chance of turning out safely. To straighten out the road considerable con-siderable right of way over private property will have to be granted, especially es-pecially through Springdale lands. The people most seriously effected are Bishop Thornton Hepworth and Freeborn Free-born D. Gifford. It cuts the bishop's farm in two, going right through it. Gifford has a store and has made improvements im-provements facing the present road which will be left some distance from the new road. The commissioners went all over this road with the engineers and get a clear comprehension of the proposed propos-ed change. Chairman Atkin arranged for a meeting of everybody interested, to be held at Springdale Wednesday night, June 3, to fix up the right or way, etc. The intention, as the News understands under-stands it, is to get this road built as soon as possible. While the people of Springdale will suffer some loss in granting right of way over their limited patches of farm and garden land at this time, the future will recompense them in measure to overflowing, and they will rejoice in Having a goou, sum iu.m. Editor Wallis and his daughter, Miss Lillian, accompanied the commissioners. |
