Show reethovf:n CENTENNIAL A concert in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the death of the great composer, Beethoven, was given in the D. C. auditorium last Sunday night, under auspices of the M. I. A. and D. C. music department. Very handsome programs with a fine picture of the master composer on the front page were distributed. The program was 'a splendid one, thoroughly enjoyed by a very large audience. The opening number was a chorus, "The Heavens Resound," under direction dir-ection of J. W. McAllister; a reading. The Life of Beethoven was given by Mrs. Marion Snow; Sonata, Adigo. Ruby Nelson. Moderato. Blanch Lamb, Allegro, Effie Bracken, was beautifully given, the clever training of Miss Evelyn Thurston, the 1). ''. instructor in piano music, being strongly evidenced by her pupils; string trio, "Minuet in G Seller wi," Alfred Morris, Clark , Iliggins and Evelyn Thurston; .piano solo, "Anger Over Lost Penny," Priscilla Hall; piano solo, "German Dance," Clesta Worthen; Violin Sonata, Wesley Pearce; vocal solo. "Adelaide," Wendell Wen-dell Robinson; piano duet, "Turkish March," Clesta Worthen and Vivian Leavitt; "Dramatic Interpretation of Spirit of Beethoven," Bessie Thurston Thurs-ton and Blanche Nelson; piano duet, "Variations on a Theme of Beethoven's," Bee-thoven's," Lida Srrow and Mae Pace; string trio, Alfred Morris, Clark Iliggins Ilig-gins and Evelyn Thurston. The concert was a great- success and heartily enjoyed. The fact that it was given on a Sunday night caused caus-ed applause to be withheld, which we fuel sure would have been very hearty. hear-ty. All connected with the splendid entertainment are deserving of congratulation. |
