Show j ANTHONY ATKIX LOSES RIGHT HAND IX ACCIDENT Anthony Atkin, 18-year old son ot Joseph T. Atkin, Sr., suffered the loss of his right hand last Sunday by the explosion of giant powder. : was out with his father's sheep Hour the Apex mine, about 25 miles west of here and was a few miles from camp setting off giant powder to scare coyotes. On stick of powder did not explode so the young man went and picked it up, thinking it dead. Just as he did so it exploded, the charge blowing off his right hand above the wrist and filling his face, right knee and abdoman with pieces of cap, etc. 1 . He was alone, so mounted his mule and made his way back to camp, six or eight miles, where he shocked his brother Rudger, who went ahead and notified his father here by phone from Blooniington. His father and John H. Cottam left and brought the young man to the hospital here, where he is doing as well as could be expected. It was miraculous that he did not lose his eyesight and suffer further injury than he did. |
