Show SCOUTS EXPLORATION HIKE . i Early last Friday morning a special exploration hike was made by first class scouts only and their leaders of Troop 1 to the narrows of the Virgin river. Those making the trip were Council Executive Kilburn, Scout Leaders B. Jarvis, Jr. and Geo. T. Thompson, Scouts Carlyle Thompson, Bliss Jarvis, James Linder, Ellis McAllister, Mc-Allister, James Wulfensten, Jack Ahlstrom and Willie Riding. It was the intention to make the trip down the river through the narrows nar-rows on a raft,1 8x18 ft, which had been specially constructed for the purpose here in pieces to be easily fitted together, On arriving at the river, however, the water was found insufficient to carry the raft down the stream. The distance to the head of the Mnvrnws is about eght miles and the party went nearly that far by auto truck. Here they found ancient Indian In-dian ruins about a block in length with several large sabs of rock under which, presumably, burials had been made. As they could not use the raft the party made "horseshoe packs" to carry provisions, eC, and started to hike across country and strike the river lower down instead of trying to follow alongside t. They hiked about ten miles to a place between the upper and lower rarrows and here they had a swim in he river and bedded bed-ded down for the right. While on the hike one of he boys had a violent hemorrhage from the nose and as they had 10 cool water a barrel cactus was oiened with an ax and the cool water found in it used very effectively.
