behind by two points after three outI quarters but finally the Utes came out outon outon I on top 62 45 behind 11 straight points by Brian McNamara Kevin Montague and Cary Hamilton early in the fourth quarter to pull away for first place in the Basin Tournament in Altamont Saturday The Uintah Utes jumped out to a 20 2 lead after only omy 15 seconds of action in the first quarter on a field goal by McNamara and a free throw by McNamara delivered a point one lead of 3 to 2 to the Utes However Altamont grabbed a lei lead d of 43 4 on a field goal by 65 Eddie Fisher Traveling problems bugged the Utes as well as field goal failures so they went to the free throw route for a 54 5 lead on charity tosses by Doug Bowen and Jeff Drollinger Altamont regained a one point lead on a field goal by Tracy Thayne but a three point play by Mon Mon- Montague Montague tague plus a two pointer by Drollinger gave the Utes a iso is o lead lead Montague Montague con con- connected connected on his basket after Uin- Uintah tah a four point lead and Altamont fired in a two pointer to tie up the game at 1616 A field goal by McNamara delivered a 1816 18 advantage to the Utes but a field goal by Fisher and two Christensen fired in two free throws to narrow Uintah's lead to one point The Utes had only a lead of one point but Weldon came to the rescue as he scored six straight points to give his team a seven on free throws by Drollinger and field goals by McNamara and Hamilton to win the game and first place by the score of 62 to 45 McNamara was the leading scorer in inthe inthe the game for the Utes at 18 points He fired in seven field goals and hit 4 out of 6 free throws Drollinger Weldon and Montague scored 11 points and Hamilton fired in ten points Bowen popped in three points and Wilkinson scored two points The Utes put in 16 out of 27 free throws Fisher and Christensen were the top scorers for Altamont at 14 points Todd put in seven points and Miles scored four fourpoints fourpoints remarked I give a lot of credit to Altamont They did a good job with their 3 23 match up zone It match match- matched ed up real well with our offense I thought Altamont was a very good team Their two
