| Show E i c r I 1 I f J Jf f 1 f I j r t Io 1 j r THE DESERET GENERATION and Transmission f f plant south of Vernal involves over 50 contractors contractors tors Design engineering firm Burns and McDon McDon- McDonnell nell Hell helps coordinate construction activity ty with weekly progress meetings Work goes smoothly at site despite seeming confusion Keeping track of all the work going on at the Deseret Generation and Transmission sion Cooperative Bonanza power plant is isa isa a job Though the activity looks confusing engineers and contractors know what's going on according to Denny Doyle a construction engineer at The facility scheduled for completion in late 1984 involves over 50 contractors and subcontractors sub said Doyle and the plants plant's design engineering firm Burns and McDonnell of Kansas City Mo keep track of the building activity by keeping in touch constantly with con tractors Over million of work re- re remains re remains mains to be done Well have a weekly construction meeting at which time everybody Is given an opportunity to see where everybody's going each week said D Doyle yle Its each contractors contractor's responsibility to keep track of all subcontractors sub he said Burns and McDonnell designed a schedule involving the major steps of the plants plant's completion Each prime con tractor takes his scope of work and breaks it down so it fits the big schedule Doyle said In turn each con con- contractor tractor has to make up a detailed schedule to conform with the projects project's main schedule he added Contractors submitted bids which took into account time frames available which in turn affect how many workers a firm brings to the site and the number of hours they work each week When a contractor bids he knows what schedule he has to meet said Doyle Many power plants have the same basic design You can pace yourself on past experience he added Some contractors provide their own parts which pays for in the con con- contract tract agreement has to keep close tabs on parts it pays for directly however said Doyle assigned areas reas next to the plant sites to contractors for parts storage Each firm has at least one person assign assign- assigned assigned ed responsibility for the parts Sometimes I see contractors make maps of the stuff they put in the parts yard Doyle said Schedules may have to be adjusted he added such as in cases when a parts shipment Is late A delay of about a month occurred during fall 1981 because of flooding he said Generally Were glad to see where were we're at today But you never can tell when when something some hing will pop up Doyle said Located about 35 miles south of Vernal the plant will have a capacity to produce megawatts of power expects to add another megawatt generating unit later Its a whole different world inside these gates said Doyle |
