Show mission 66 program schedules monument improvements mission 66 6 a 10 year pro gram bf the national Nation nl park service to provide both tile s and aci kincl to de celop and improve the na dional park system calls for further improvements to be made in the facilities at dino taur baur national monument the visitor center which will be dedicated sunday has been built and water and sanitation improvements have been made under the mission 66 program an addi add dional employee residence and a utility building are now under construction and exten sive road building in the mon ament area will soon get un tin derway these improvements are also mission 66 projects future plans call for many improvements to be made in the area known as the can yon section famous for the awesome beauty of its rugged terrain and wilderness seren tty of deep canyons roads turnouts tvr and parking areas will be provided where the visitor can stop for relax relaxation relaxant att on and enjoyment spur roads will lead to the outstanding scenery at Il harpers arperd corner round top Y ascho cho park slid and castle rock the completed road system will provide for an easy flow ot of truffle traffic through the canyon section from either the west or the east and will make it possible for the visitor to see most of the major points of in along tile the yampa river in one day visitor services wa within thin tile the canyon section two additional visitor centers are planned the largest I 1 of mhd two will be at pool creek near echo park deep in the heart of the canyons exhibits in this building will deal with geology archeology archaeology arche history vegetation and wildlife the other building at round top will be a secondary orienta tion and information center for the canyon section here the visitor will get a lc ic view as if looking down on a bold relief mop map of tile the far fan castic gorges and deep can cons ons ile he will ile be able to parti cipale in and understand fire protection through exhibits i arid and a visit to tile the lookout on tion in the same building several other developments are plant planned led on a scale smaller than tile the visitor centers but langei than hall roadside exhibits these thebe include af A castle park an ex hibit toom loom in longer station or exhibit shelter on canyon arche tied in with a self guiding trill to mantle case arche archaeological archeological site and hells 6 A mitten exhibit shelter on oil warm springs ranch covering the remark able relationships of the fault systems visible there at pats hole echo park an exhibit shelter on river action alluvial flat vegetation and aquatic life tie in with a self guiding trail A number of large campgrounds grouer Js are planned for devel near entrances to the monument two or three more primitive types or camp grounds are also being con eldered to meet the needs of the adventuresome travelers who leave the main roads 0 seek the benefits of I 1 back country experience in less acce accessible sible parts of the bonu ment along the green and yampa other improvements to provide for closer knit and more efficient adminis operations a new headquarters outside the mon ciment near U S highway 40 is being plin tied this build ing will be designed design cd for year acar round operation rind and will in elude clude monument offices most of tile the employee ho housing and st orrige and nd buildings plans are being considered for ranger stations and housing for a few other employees and small equip merit ment storage structures ne nc water and sanitation facilities will be required in with the pal developments the pre ent radio system will be im proved and expanded to pro vide dependable com munica lions for protecting and ad ministering the area dealing boating on tile the monument rivers is fast becoming a dav form of recreation launching and landing bacill ties at several points will be built with boat ser services viLes be ing provided under special use |
