Show New charge filed in abuse case The Uintah County Attorney's office Wednesday amended a charge of aggravated ag-gravated assault to child abuse against a woman in a case involving her infant daughter. The change upgrades the severity of the charge from a third-to second-degree felony. A complaint signed by Uintah county Sheriff's Cpl. Larry Crowl before 7th Circuit Cir-cuit Court Judge Whitney D. Hammond accuses Wilma Jean Allen of abusing her two-year-old daughter Dec. 11. Investigators In-vestigators believe Mrs. Allen scalded the child by setting her in a tub filled with hot water at the family's trailer parked at the Brush Creek campground north of Jensen. Mrs. Allen brought her child voluntarily voluntari-ly to the Ashley Valley Medical Center in Vernal, claiming the child accidently fell in. But investigation made officers believe that she may have scalded the child on purpose, according to a sheriff's report. Mrs. Allen was released from custody following her arrest after posting a $2,006 bond. Judge Hammond Wednesday continued con-tinued her preliminary hearing to Jan. 21 to give her time to hire an attorney. |
