In the first minute of the game Valoy Eaton scored and at the end of the first quarter the Utes were leading by 13-10. The teams were neck and neck in the second quarter with scores reading 14- 14. 16-14, 16-16 and then the Alumni drew away steadily until at the end of the quarter they led by 31-18 During the third quarter the Utes were able to narrow the margin to 39-35 but didn't keep it up. In the last quarter the Alumni reached 47 points before the Utes rallied and scored again. In the last minute of the game Eaton and Cutshaw put them in the net fast but it was too late and the final score wound up with the Alumni on the w inning end of 53-45 On the grads team. Barr, Hatch and Wells show ed good defense on the backwards. back-wards. Cutshaw and Eaton were very aggressive for the varsity. High scorers were Eaton. 27; Well, 22 and Cutshaw, 12 At halftime the cheerleaders and Iwnd were very entertaining and paid gracious tribute to the visiting team. Referees were DeVon Andrus and Joe Moody of Roosevelt. On the visiting teams were Charlie Wells. Sterling Kendall. Donnie Barr, Earl Gross, Art Ia-c, Ronnie Abegglen. Brent Roberts. JUNIOR BASKETBALL HITS SECOND WEEK. TEMPO INCREASES The junior basketball season is moving along, with the second week of play completed. Interest is mounting as teams acquire more skill in ball handling han-dling and shooting. With twelve wards participating, spectators and players are sure to receive hours of good entertainment. Beginning the games last Wednesday, Wed-nesday, Naples defeated dines with a 39 to 22 score. Norman Merrell was high scorer of that game with 1R points. Gary Case of G lines was close behind with n total of 14 points. In the second game G. McKee of Tridell led his teammates in scoring 12 points as they defeated Davis 30 to 21. High point man for Davis was Nolan Slaugh with 8 X)inls. In the thriller of the night Jensen and Maeser 2nd see-sawed lack and forth through the game. Maeser 2nd ran up n total of 24 points toedge out Jensen's 23. Scoring honors were shared as Francis Bowdcn and Barton Snow each scored 11 points. The first game of the night showed n fat and plucky Lapoint team trying to keep up with the bigger and more ex-perienrcs ex-perienrcs Maeser 1st crew, Iji point was right in the ball game until the second half, then Maeser 1st hit their stride and ran up a score of 32 points as Ijipoinl scored only 14. Kenny Ashby scored 14 points for the victors. Allen Justice was high xiint man for Ijqioinl with six tallies. |
