D Roosevelt proclaimed the first national observance of Wildlife Week in 1938 This year more than ten million students teachers and a variety of conservation club members are expected to take part in the activities REDFORD in an acceptance speech of bf the honorary position endorsed this years year's theme waters-her waters creeks Americas bays marshes lakes rivers and oceans are critical to wildlife and people We need clean water not only to enjoy life but to survive With the demand for water growing every day it is important that we conserve our water resources and keep them clean Yet today much water is wasted and whole bodies of water are with contaminated-with sewage sludge oil spills silt and deadly man-made man chemicals To do this we must educate everyone to the fact that water is a precious and fragile commodity If we are to conserve and clean up our waters-and waters then keep them we clean-we must drive home to all Americans that We All Need Clean Water Water Redford said The battle to keep clean water water- II I in America m 1 is not a new Conflict and the National Wildlife Week program attests to that fact In 1954 the theme for the week was Clean Waters for All America in 1960 it was vas Water Key to Your Sur- Sur vivial and again in 1965 the water related theme was Fight Dirty Water Although Utah has only limited water pollution problems it is necessary to continue to monitor the existing problems and make concerted efforts toward preventing future contamination The quality of life for both humans and wildlife is closely related to available water supplies and its quality G G.
