| Show Hunters still cant can't teU tella tela a moose from a mouse Oy fly John C Conservation Officer West Vest Vernal District Now that our big game hunts are In full Cull swing we are again plagued by that old problem of hunters killing the wrong species of oC animal As of oC today during the elk hunt we have lost 4 moose in Daggett County and four moose two elk and a abuck abuck abuck buck deer In Uintah County These are animals we have confirmed to be illegal kills kills- what the unreported kill is Is anyone's guess What is the answer to this problem That's the sixty four doTI dollar r question Im I'm sure some of these kills ha have ve to be of a deliberate na nature ture and there is not much that can be done with individuals of that nature but the majority of these cases have to be through ignorance and this is where we can possibly be of help If you do not know how to identify one species from Crom another then obviously you should find out how to before you go into the field Come into our office In Vernal and we will show you pictures of oC the various animals and go over the field identification markings There Is nothing difficult about identifying deer elk and moose but it is like learning anything else you must make an effort Any of our personnel would also be happy to discuss the subject Another problem we run into during the deer hunt Is that of wasting meat Each year we find whole deer boxes of deer meat and sacks full of good meat that have been thrown away To begin with it is unlawful to waste game meat and secondly there are many people who would be tickled to death to have some fresh meat 1 If you have a deer or any other game me you do not want call our office and we will come by and pick up whatever you have We have a list of people available who not only want the meat but they need it and we will see that they get gel it It |
