Show National Guard unit to train in Europe Company A from Vernal along with other units in the Engineer Battalion of the Utah National Guard has been nominated to conduct their annual two week training period in Europe during the summer of 1978 According to Steven M M. commanding commanding commanding com com- manding officer of Company A the training will take place in Germany during the period 8 through 23 July 1978 They will train with regular army units and operate under the direction of the Engineer Brigade which is stationed in Europe The objective of the training is to increase the level of professionalism of the mem mem- m members m bers hers of A by providing realistic handson hands training and mission oriented opportunities opportunities opportunities op op- op- op in the areas of possible future deployment In addition to receiving realistic and essential training a weekend break will allow time for or members to visit some of the tourist attractions in Europe Tim THE Engineer Battalion Bat was nominated to attend their annual training in Europe due to its past ft record ord of excellence excellence excellence ex ex- in training preparation and community service Two units of the battalion were selected for the Itschner Award symbolic of the most outstanding National Guard Engineer Unit in the United States during the years of llYN 1974 and 1975 The battalion as a whole was selected as the most outstanding National Guard Engineer Unit within the thirteen Western States area for forthe forthe forthe the year 1975 A platoon from the battalion was also selected to train in Germany last spring and was most effective in this assignment also indicated that the unit is being permitted to exceed its authorized strength for this overseas training assignment and openings exist for select individuals individuals individuals in in- to join the National Guard Through a state adopted cooperative education program an opportunity is available for high school seniors to attend their basic and advanced training and receive high school credit so they may graduate with their class In addition scholarships are available for those who qualify which will pay fifty percent of the tuition costs to a state supported school of higher education Persons interested in joining the Guard or finding out more about Guard opportunities opportunities opportunities op op- op- op contact your local National Guard representative Bruce H.
