Show LYNCHED AT WYOMING. A hunter named Gibbon was lynched at Rock Creek, Wyoming, on Tuesday night. The story goes that he entered Thayer's store at that place, with a desire to sell some skins. The clerk (Atkens) informed the hunter that the law forbade the purchase of the skins, at which answer Gibbons raised his gun and shot the young man, killing him instantly. The murder is described as being utterly without provocation. The news spread fast and the hunter was captured, a rope placed around his neck, and he was hauled up and hung till dead. It is said that citizens generally, outraged at the dastardly assassination, either participated in the lynching, or gave it countenance as a matter of safety in themselves and to all persons.-Salt Lake Herald. |
