Show BURGLARY. Attempt at robbery in the residence of Dr. O. C. Ormsby. Last evening, the family of Dr. O. C. Ormsby, including himself, experienced a dreadful fright. At about 8 o'clock the Doctor left his residence in his buggy to drive to his office at the Pioneer drug store. Immediately on his leaving the house, Mrs. Ormsby heard a sound as of some one on the back stairs, and sent her little boy, Oliver, aged about 9 years, to see what it was. The boy went into the hall, where he met a man of large size, who wore a long, black mask, which revealed no feature except his eyes. The child was so terrified that he could only start to run towards the room where his mother was, crying out "Run, mother, he's coming!" With this exclamation the boy fell in a convulsion produced by fright. Mrs. Ormsby ran into the hall, seized the boy under one arm and her babe under the other and ran out of the front door to the gate. Here the boy revived and started after his father. He arrived at the drug store just as his father was unharnessing the horse only a few minutes after the Doctor left home. The latter could only glean that a masked man was in his house frightening his wife. He darted towards home, but overcome with fright, anxiety and exertion, his strength failed him when he reached the Logan House, where he was obliged to pause. He met two neighbors there, whom he asked to proceed at once to his house. They did so, but the burglar was gone. The whole of the occurrences detailed, transpired within 10 or 15 minutes. No clue to the burglar has been obtained, as the night was so dark as to enable him to make good his escape. He took nothing so far as is known, but had been concealed up stairs some time, where he had rummaged the contents of two bureaus, which contained only clothing. |
