Show A TOUR. President Wm. (William) B. Preston returned on the 23rd inst. from a tour of the settlements in the northern part of the Cache Valley Stake of Zion, on which he, with Counselors M. W. Merrill and C. O. Card, had been absent about two weeks. The party held meetings in the various settlements, and learned that the Saints generally were in very comfortable circumstances temporally. Although an excellent spirit was widely prevalent, there seemed to be a desire, equally widespread among the people to do even better than they had been doing. In Clifton and Weston the crops had been very light on account of the scarcity of water the past summer. Counselor M. W. Merrill will return to the terminus of the U. & N. (Utah & Northern) shortly, as his presence is required there, but Pres. (President) Preston and Counselor C. O. Card, who will probably be accompanied by other brethren, expect to pay an early visit to the settlements in the south end of the valley. |
