Show THE LATE GENERAL CONFERENCE. The general Conference at Salt Lake which convened on Wednesday Oct. (October) 13th ???Unreadable??? the Territory attended, and at times the streets of the city were thronged. The action of the conference in sustaining as the First Presidency of the church President John Taylor with Apostle Geo. (George) Q. Cannon as his first and Apostle Joseph P. Smith as his second counselor, will meet with a most sincere and cordial endorsement from Latter-day Saints throughout the world. These men are long tried, true and faithful servants of the Most High, and we cannot but feel that the selection of them for the positions named will be attended by the approval and blessing of Jehovah, and that it was dictated by His Spirit. The same sentiment will apply to the selection of Bishop John Henry Smith, son of the late President Geo. (George) A. Smith, and of President F. M. Lyman of Tooele Stake, to fill two of the three vacancies in the quorum of Apostles occasioned by the organization of the First Presidency. We bespeak for them the support, faith and prayers of all true Latter-day Saints everywhere. A large number of missionaries were called to carry the gospel to various parts of the earth, and, on the whole, the work done during the conference was of an important and highly satisfactory character, and will, we believe, be attended with benefits and blessings to the whole church. One vacancy still remains in the quorum of Apostles. |
