Show Number one of volume two of the Contributor finally reached us, and a careful examination of it reveals many benefits? beauties? and merits. Several of the writers who did so much to make a success of volume one, have articles in the number before us, and we are assured of future contributions from them. The first chapter of a serial by Elder Moses Thatcher entitled "Mexico and the Mexicans" appears in this number. "Quebec" continues his scientific articles with a chapter on ??? and C.W. Penrose favors us with the first installment of a serial, "Leaves from the tree of life" which promises to be very interesting and profitable. "Travels in Italy" by De ??? is a continuation of the account of his European tour, and in addition to these, there are a number of other articles of marked merit. The Contributor enters upon its recent volume in an enlarged form and under favorable auspices, and when it is remembered that most of those who write for it are young people, its literary merit is surprisingly great. The manager has our cordial wishes for success. |
