Show WILLING. A game called "Willing" was played in country houses last season and has recently become popular in girls' schools. The girls select with their own consent one of their fellow scholars, on whom they lay hands, and whom it is alleged they can by mere concentrated and unanimous power of will make to obey their most absurd behests. There is enough mystery and even horror about the game to make it exciting, and success, when it is achieved, often produces a general fright which unhinges the weaker minds of the younger girls. Only this week a case has been reported of a young lady who was "willed" last Whitsuntide. She had been healthy to the day upon which she played with her schoolmates. They mesmerized her - of that there seems no doubt - grew alarmed, did not know how to restore her, and left her to recover as she might. Since then she has utterly changed. She has been daily in hysterics, unable to trust herself or to be trusted, and is apparently incurable by medicine.0 |
