Show The Tax Reformers (By L. A. HOLLEXBECK) We have to look out for false doctrines doc-trines even in the house of our friends. The Utah Taxpayer, even, is trying to shove -tup valuations and to centralize the tax matters In a Tax Commission at the state capital. Anyliody who has a particle of sense must know that 6uch a proceedure will raise everybody's every-body's taxes. They advocate an Income, tax so to catch the unwary, and be able to "put over" the scheme to raise more taxes from the people. They exptxrt to have an extra session of the legislature and ask the people to change the consti tution so that the legislature will have a free hand In reaching Into tin people's peo-ple's pocftets, and under the pretext of compelling someone to pay taxes that Is now escaping, and Dr. Lutz was employed nt a thousand dollars a month to help to "put It over." It has been tried before and the people sat on it. Dr. Bullard from Harvard a few years ago was here on the same mission. He said that "If he were called upon to devise the worst system he .could, he could not lM?nt the present' Utah tax system. That was merely a rhetorical phraseology. phrase-ology. Rhetorical 'phraseology isn't the servant w isdom ; It is the servant ser-vant of egotism and of graft. All of these forces are organized to force more taxes out of the people. I haven't heard of any organization to combat these theories coming to through the tax commission. The propaganda is all one way. T.he Taxpayers Association, Asso-ciation, has fallen Into this bad psychology. psy-chology. They can't help it. They have contracted a propagandist Itch a sort of germ that Is Indigenous to the tax spenders around Salt I-ake City, and the lobbyists agent that arc continually clubbing the state legis-laure, legis-laure, for more money and more. The Taxpayer is full of this propaganda propa-ganda and w ill not print a syllable ad-j verse to those theories. On a great j economic question, did you ever see Justice or right come out of a great Issue where one side was absolutely prohibited from being heard? Accidents Acci-dents like that do not happen. But,; you may bet, the people will hear atxfut it. There Is a considerable time yet, before they can hope to put this over, and the still small voice is likely to become the voice of a Dragon Dra-gon in opposition to this unjvst and unholy scheme. |
