Show Dairy Cows Need Supplementary Feed Mrch has been said and written alwM't supplementary feeding of dairy cows when pastures are short- Further Fur-ther evidence of the necessity of such feeding has recently been obtained by the Bureau of Dairy Industry of the United States department of agriculture agricul-ture at It's dairy experiment farm at Belts vllle, Md. A half-acre plot of pasture grass was mowed at 10-day Intervals and the grass weighed. In May, when conditions were most favorable favor-able for the growth of the grass, 420 pounds were obtained In one 10-day perhxl : in Argust. during a dry spell, the yield for a similar period was only 11 pounds. It is evident, therefore, that under such short-pasti:re conditions, condi-tions, cows should ile fed us heavily as during the winter. |
