Show Tree Owns Itself The Jackson oak at Athens. Ga., is referred to ns the tree that owns Itself. The unique deed which was recorded re-corded three score years ago by Judge W. U. Jarkson, at one time chief Justice Jus-tice of the Georgia Supreme court, says In part : "I, W. H. Juckson, of the county of Clarke of the one part and the oak tree (here defining loca tton) of the other part: Wltnesseth, that the said W. 11. Jackson for and In consideration of the great affection which he bears said tree, and his great desire to 6ee It protected has conveyed con-veyed and by these presents doth convey con-vey unto the said oak tree entire possession pos-session of Itself, and of all lands within eight feet of It on all sides." |
