The completion and oiling I of No. 40 will cost at least $2,500,-000.. $2,500,-000.. It is the ambition of Governor Gover-nor Johnson to give his home com- munity, .Northwestern Colorado, a thru highway second to none. It will be of great benefit not only here but to 'the entire state, providing pro-viding the most scenic route across the continent. The highwayy department already al-ready has budgeted about $8,000,-000 $8,000,-000 of the program. The general assembly authorized the governor to borrow $20,000,000 as the keystone key-stone of the state's work relief program. Governor Johnson expects ex-pects the federal government to add about $8,000,000 as a direct grant and the government's 30 per cent share of funds expended for work relief. "One of the greatest needs of the state today is a first-class highway system," Governor Johnson John-son said. "Under this program we will not only achieve this need but at the same time will put our unemployed un-employed back to work. In addition ad-dition to" men working directly on the roads, hundreds of others in allied industries will benefit." All connecting links and secondary secon-dary roads will be put in first class condition under the program, which will make its benefits felt in all sections of the state. One of the main feeder roads for which it is hoped to get a large appropriation appro-priation is that from Oak Creek via Yampa and Toponas across the Gore range. The Steamboat Pilot. |
