Show TOM PERISH IN ID BRAHMA COAL MIR MI miners imprisoned in burning shaft being suffocated because of do de st ruction of air shaft mcalester okla more than thirty miners vere mere in coal mine no I 1 at Hail vine four miles fast east ot of mcalester Wed wednesday nesda y mo coining ining when fire destroyed the hoisting shaft and air shaft and cut off air from the men below twenty five deal dead bodies were wera brought out wednesday night follow ing a successful three hours battle battla with the tha flames it Is 13 believed that six or eight more will be found twenty five mules were suffocated and some of their bodies were burned explorations in the channels revealed the fact act that none of the men met death by buining but that all ol of them were suffocated after the entombed minors miners had bad lone one down on the cage a fire broke out occasioned by the ignition of a barrel of oil which a miner was trying to chlde ahe flames spread at a t once to the hoisting shaft and the air bhart and all communication with the top was at once cut off the first intimation ti tho the people on oil top of the ground had of the trouble was the flames and smoke oming coming out ot of th the tot top of tho the shaft hundreds of ata mla irs rushed to tho the scene and tried to get into the air shaft but this was impossible as flames and smoke nere ere coming up that way ay with such au ch force as to drive thorn them back then an ef tort fort was made to operate the cages running up and down the hoisting shafts but it was found that the cages the cables and the guides had bad been burned there was wai absolutely no help tor for the miners |
