Pleasant Grove Men's Soccer Team Defeats Kearns 5-0 by Dan Williams Behind a hat trick and an assist from senior Winston Sorhaiti and a couple of goals from the Fonseca brothers, the Vikings cruised to a 5-0 non-region non-region victory over Kearns. Sorhaitz started the scoring early in the first half taking an on the ground cross and dribbling drib-bling through a couple of defenders de-fenders to the six yard box and putting the ball into the lower left side of the net. Sophomore Ryan Fonseca scored his second sec-ond goal of the season and the team's second of the match by controlling a ball at the 1 8 yard box and volleying it into the goal at mid-height inside the right post on his second touch. Sorhaitz added his second goal of the game and the team's third goal still in the first half of play. In the second half, Sorhaitz again made things worse for the Cougars as he dribbled into the box and put a dangerous ball across the six yard box that senior se-nior Kevin Fonseca slid onto to poke it into the goal. That was also Kevin Fonseca's second goal of the year. Sophomore Aaron Williams Wil-liams stole a pass in the midfield and dribbled to the right side of the field and laid the ball off for Sorhaitz who took a couple of touches and then burned a 25 yard rocket from the right side into the left side netting for the final goal of the game with about 20 minutes left. Sorhaitz is enjoying his senior season with the Vikings Vi-kings and upon completion of the school year will join the United Soccer Leagues (USL) Premier Development League's (PDL) BYU- Cougars Cou-gars soccer team a few games into their season. This club team doesn't play through the NCAA, but through the summer sum-mer development league, playing play-ing in the Southwest Division. This is considered the highest high-est level of amateur soccer in the country including many NCAA stars in the lineups of the different teams. The BYU club could qualify for one of the PDL's nine spots in this year's 98th annual Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Soccer tournament tour-nament and compete against professional teams including Real Salt Lake. Other teams in their league are in Ogden and California. They play a 16 game regular season. |
