They are Janelle Matheny, Eliza Shumway, Talysa Ander-son, Andrea Gnciting,. Brooke Savage, Lexie Carr, Rachel Green, Tayler Welch, Tamela Daley, Lea Wride, and Hallah Harmon. The first six contestants were spotlighted last week and the odier five this week. Contestant 7 Rachel Green is the daughter of Shani Green. Rachel is a senior at Pleasant Grove High School. Her career ambitions include a double Ma-jor in Business and Theater with a desire to own her own theater. For her talent, Rachel will be performing a monologue entitled "Greater Tuna." She is raising money for Special Olympics in Utah by sponsoring a play for her platform project "Celebrat-ing Ability Instead of Disability." Tayler Welch is contes-tant 8. She is the daughter of Terry and Wendy Welch. Tay-ler is a student at Utah Valley University pursuing a Bach-elor's Degree in Special Educa-tion. She will perform "Polish Dance" on the violin. With her platform "Seeing Past she is helping people through an on-lin- e informational web site. Contestant 9 is Tamela Daley, daughter of Eric and Kim ' , i 1 - ; ?' - o' ' Daley. She is a senior at PGHS and wants to pursue a Bach-elor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, becoming a Dis-ney Imagineer. Tamela will sing "Astonishing" from "Little Women." Tamela is encourag-ing young women to pursue, careers in the sciences through her platform "Empowering Women in Science." Lea Wride is contestant 10. Lea is the daughter of Lance and Tewa Wride. She is a senior at Pleasant Grove High School and would like to Major in Public Relations and Minor in Dance at BYU. She will be performing a dance solo to "Hold Me Now.'" She is informing youth how to "Date Smart" with her plat-form. Contestant 1 1 is Hallah Harmon, daughter of Richard and Stacy Harmon. Hallah is a senior at PGHS and hopes to obtain a Master's in Psy-chology and have her own counseling office some day. ' J Pleasant Grove Orchestra will present the annual Young Artists' Concert on Friday, March 25, at 7 p.m. at the Pleas-ant Grove High School Audito-rium. This concert features the following musicians: Joey Buck, who started playing the piano at age 3, Benson Marshall, age 9, on the cello, Alec Taylor, age 16, on the viola, Rebecca Devonas, age 16, on the oboe, Spencer Al-len, age 17, on the french horn, Alyssa Pyper, age 17, on the violin. Also we will be featur-ing selections from "Carnival of the Animals" with the following: Briton Hainsworth, Brennan Burnett, Dallin Ivan Corbridge, Strom Truman Clark, and Em-ily Livingston. The orchestra will be featured in Jean Sibelius' "Finlandia." Everyone is invited to this free concert sponsored by the Pleasant Grove Arts Com-mission. This will be an enjoy-able evening filled with music from amazing young musicians. Alyssa Pyper, age 17, is the daughter of Gregory and Jenni-fer Pyper of Highland. She has played the violin for 10 years and is formally studying with Monte Belknap. In 2010 Alyssa per-formed with the Utah Symphony as a Youth Symphony Ail-St- ar in their side by side concert. She was seated first stand, playing the solos from Death and Transfigu-ration, OP.24. In 2009 she was a Performance Finalist for the Utah Valley Symphony Young Artists. Alyssa was awarded Honorable Mention in the Inter-mediate Strings Division by the Utah State Fair Music Competi-tion in 2008. She attends Lone Peak High School where she is concert master of the Symphonic Orchestra. Under the direction of Mack Wilberg, she was con-cert master for the 2010 Alpine School District Masterworks Festival performance of Mo-zart's Requiem. Alyssa was re-cently named the 2011 Sterling Scholar of Music for LPHS and continued to the state finals. She has been accepted to the School of Music and awarded a scholar-ship at Brigham Young Univer-sity where she will continue her studies in Violin Performance. She has been a member of the Timpanogos Chamber Orchestra for seven years and the Lyceum Philharmonic this past year. Benson Marshall is nine years old and has been playing the cello since he was five. He is a member of the American Heri-tage Lyceum Ensemble. He was In no particular order. Briton Hainsworth, Brennan Burnett, Dallin Ivan Corbridge, Strom Truman Clark and Emily Livingston. selected to play in the Suzuki Youth Orchestra of the Americas in Minneapolis last May. He has studied with Catherine Willcy, Elizabeth Willey, and currently studies with Carey Cheney. Benson has a great love of music and can often be heard chanting "play likeYo-Yo.- " Some of Ben-son's favorite things are Legos, BYU basketball, Tae Kwon Do, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Cub Scouts. Spencer Allen is a senior at Pleasant Grove High School. He plays in the Pleasant Grove Band where he played in the pit orchestra for the hit productions of "Le Misera-ble," "South Pacific" and "Phan-tom of the Opera." He also plays in the Lyceum Philharmonic Orchestra which was awarded "Best of State" orchestra the last two years. He was delighted to be chosen to be in the All-sta- te Orchestra this year.
