Show Elk Poachers Fined $1000 A I'tah court slapped fines totaling $1,000 on four I'tah men who were found guilty of illegal possession of elk. Justice of the Peace Norman Greenhalgh also confiscated confis-cated three rifles and the elk from the men. The men, identified as Bill Warwood. Phillip Stilson and Gary Howard, all of Nephi, and Wayne Killian of St. George, were seen loading what onlookers thought was a beef into their vehicle. County Sheriff Duane Sperry was called to the scene; when he found tnat the animal was an elk. he called Division of Wildlife Resources Conservation Con-servation Officer Bob Howard. The men were immediately taken before Justice Greenhalgh and charged with unlawful possession of protected wildlife. According to I.aVar Ware, supervisor of the Central Region, there will be more road blocks and stations for cheeking hunters than in the past. "We ate anticipating an increase in poaching due to the meat shortage." he said. However, he pointed out that the Division Divi-sion has hired additional couserval ion office r s who will be on Ihe lookout for persons illegally taking tak-ing game. |
