Show $d ? sis H U By Ernie Milner Football season has started in the high school and college levels locally. If by chance you are one of the fortunate ones that loves to work hard, practice prac-tice hard, and take everything that is dished out, i i .. then football is the came for vou. U V' Many are happy to just be on a team, but to make that team requires re-quires many hard hours of work and more work. Twice a day drills lead into the season and then you can relax when school starts. Wind sprints, contact during practice and the inevitable mile run wind up getting yuu into shape along with pushups, set-ups. jogging in place and other tortures designed to make soft muscles into hard muscles. High school athletics are a stepping stone to future accomplishments, on and off the field. Hard work and desire turn a boy into a man, and hard work and desire separate the men from the boys. The rewards of athletics are great for those who want to work for them. In recent years, the Devils of Moab have become known for their outstanding out-standing football, basketball, baseball and golf teams. In most small cities, the ability to become State Champions is just a dream, but Moab has had it become a reality. Support from parents and fans in the area has been great over the past seasons and should remain re-main to be so in the future. The Red Devils are defending Region champions cham-pions and were defeated in the state semi-finals by Morgan last year. This team lost some good players that will be missed but others are working hard to take their place. Returning lettermen will shore up the offensive and defensive units and help from the JV members will benefit the team as a whole. Approximately 36 boys have turned out for practices this week and by the time school starts, 5 or 6 more are expected to show up. This is nearly the same number that carried the Red Devils to a great season last ear and we hope that they can again do a fine job representing the ' school. |
