Curt Freeman, not shown, was elected as Commander. Left to right, the officers are: Bud Flynn, vice commander; Jesse Gruver, director dir-ector No. 2; 0. L. (Louie) Anderson, director "B", Cecil McCurdy, secretary; secre-tary; Sheriff W. H. Bowman; and George Dutos, treasurer. Also not shown is Cliff Aldridge, who was elected as director "A." Men must be 21 years of age to join the Jeep Posse which lends a hand in many community affairs af-fairs such as the March of Dimes Telethon, when they help collect pledged money, and the Friendship Friend-ship Cruise and Rodeo, where they assist with traffic control and parking park-ing cars. Some of the men are special deputies which Sheriff Haskell Bowman may utilize if necessary, and many members are planning to take the next law enforcement training course when the opportunity oppor-tunity avails itself. The Jeep Posse has been very instrumental in such incidents as the case last spring when a tourist tour-ist was stranded on a sheer cliff 200 feet above the ground near Cane Springs Park. The Posse aided the Sheriff's Department De-partment in bringing the man down safely. They also devoted much of their free time last summer, a total of three weeks, in search for the bodies of two people peo-ple who drown at different differ-ent times in the Colorado River. When a drowning occurs, a night watch is kept with spotlights on the river which requires an around - the - clock crew to drag the river by day and watch it by night. Anyone interested in joining the Jeep Posse should contact Commander Comman-der Curt Freeman at 259-7351. |
