Show Turkey Transplant On Blue Mtns. Utah's wild turkeys are reportedly doing very ' well on Blue Mountain in the southeastern part of the state. Division of Wildlife Resources biologists bio-logists earlier this month decided to broaden the distribution in this area by transplanting some of the big birds from the Verdure Creek area onto Elk Ridge. "The birds had been suffering losses on Highway High-way 163 between Bland-ing Bland-ing and Monticello each winter," noted Regional Game Biologist Jim Bates, "so we decided that reduction of the flock might help eliminate the problem." The eight turkeys, three gobblers and five hens, were taken to the Dry Mesa area on Elk Ridge in the Blue Mountains. Moun-tains. The added birds in the area should help build the already increasing numbers num-bers in the area, providing provid-ing a better opportunity for hardy sportsmen who wish to pit their skills against the wily birds. |
