Show New Recreation Rules Have Impact In Local Area, BLM Says NEW REC RULES 2-24 New regulations issued by the Secretary of the Interior concerning recreation on lands administrated by the Bureau of Land Manage- ment may have considerable consider-able local implication, according ac-cording to Robert E. Anderson, Ander-son, BLM Monticello, District Dis-trict Manager. Affected are the 3.7 million mil-lion acres of land administered adminis-tered by th Monticello BLM District Office. The new regulations reg-ulations are effective immediately. im-mediately. Because of the increasing use BLM - administration lands have been receiving in recent years regulations attempt to forestall conflicts con-flicts and abuses. The new regulations recognize there may be commercial facili- ties on public lands including includ-ing resorts, motels, trailer camps, stores, guide services, ser-vices, marinas and ski facilities fac-ilities Sports events, races and rallies are also recognized recog-nized as legitimate uses of the public lands. The regulations regula-tions provide for issuance of special permits for these and other activities. Among recreational pursuits pur-suits recognized are collection collec-tion of hobby specimens for personal use. Collection of renewable and nonrenewable materials for sale or barter must be done within existing laws. Certain activities which damage or destroy recreation environments are prohibited under these regulations. reg-ulations. Use of motorized equip mnt is not permitted for digging, scraping or t renching when collecting specimens on public lands. Regulations provide for management of primitive areas, scertic corridors and buffer zones, wild and scenic rivers and natural areas. In cooperation with agen-cis agen-cis of state and local government gov-ernment BLM will endeavor under the new regulations to provide access for public use and enjoyment of lands with outdoor recreation value. val-ue. Opportunity to operate motorized mo-torized vehicles on public lands is recognized as a recreation rec-reation attraction. The new regulations allow for selection selec-tion of sites which will pro- vide recreation opportunities for off-road vehicle use con sistant with minimized impairment im-pairment of natural values. One possible area for this type activity is at Juab County sand dunes near I Jericho. Regulations also provide for certain rules for public use and occupancy on developed recreation sites for protection, comfort and well-being of people using us-ing those sites. |
