Show Promotion Efforts Praised M Chamber Meeting 'The San Juan County Tourist and Publicity Council Coun-cil is doing a good job in spending our money," said Chamber of Commerce President Pre-sident Jacquie Gelo at the regular meeting Tuesday. Mrs. Gelo reported on a letter received by Anne Porter Por-ter of the San Juan group, referring to the activities of the Des Barker Advertising Agency which is this year using the two-county cooperative coop-erative funds for tourism promotion. The Barker Agency is presently pre-sently looking into the possibilities pos-sibilities of presenting slfoe pictures over television in conjunction with this Sunday's Sun-day's ABC "Discovery" program pro-gram which is scheduled for 9:33 a.m. The Old Spanish Trail is .receiving emphasis by the " Moab Museum, Mrs. Gelo reported. The Museum recently rec-ently voted to create a promotional pro-motional plan for the Trail which in the 18th century carried Indian slave traffic by Spanish traders from Santa San-ta Fe to the San Francisco area. The Moab Museum is planning to carry out a program pro-gram of locating the actual trail and installing signs giving glimpses of its early history. The Old Spanish Trail crossed the Colorado River in the vicinity of the Atlas Minerals mill in lower low-er Moab valley. Bev Spencer called attention to the markings mark-ings visible above the highway high-way bridge thought by some to have been put there by early Spanish traders. Fred Radcliffe told the Times-Independent earlier this week that he had tried to get close to hte markings but failed to do so because of almost al-most inscalable cliffs. Radcliffe Rad-cliffe is an honorary Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce member from Indianapolis, who last week fled to Moab with a friend, Joe Folck, to get out of the bad weather of the East. |
