Show Moab Teenager Charged following Death of Baby A 13-year old Moab girl is in custody of Juvenile Authori-' ties this week, charged with criminal homicide in the death May 29 of a toddler from injuries sustained May 26. Police Chief Mel Dalton said he was called to the hospital emergency room May 26 at about 2:20 p.m. where the badly beaten baby, Yvonne Kristy Gray, 16 month old daughter of Allan and Dorothy Gray, was being treated. Chief Dalton said it was reported the baby appeared to nave been severely beaten and was in critical condition. The child was taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital, Grand Junction. At about 3 p.m. the teen-age baby sitter was arrested, charged with aggravated aggra-vated assault and booked into Hie county detention center. She has since been moved elsewhere by Juvenile Authorities. Later in the evening in Grand Junction the injured child underwent surgery which lasted until about 4 a.m. She remained in critical condition, never regained consciousness, and died at 10:45 a.m. May 29. An autopsy performed May 30 resulted in the criminal homicide homi-cide charges against the juvenile. Yvonne Kristy Gray was born January 25, 1975 in the San Juan County Hospital. The family, which had lived in both Monticello and Blanding a number of years, moved to Moab, residing at Parkside Trailer Court, about 6 months ago. Mr. Gray is employed at Atlas Corp., and Mrs. Gray at Moab Industries. Other children child-ren in the family include Sophia, 3, Alinda, 2, and Aldon, 6 months. Arrangements for funeral services, to be held in Blanding, are still pending. |
