Show u9$timdM$ Swsiraess Growth Noted la Nloah Ykis Srarirag Connie Caouette, president of Moab Chamber of Commerce, Com-merce, presided over their weekly luncheon meeting last Tuesday at the Sundowner. Caouette reported that a cross-section of 24 local businesses indicated significant signifi-cant increases in sales during the first quarter of 1976 when compared to the same time period last year. The businesses and their increases were: First Security Bank, 25; First Western National Bank, 29; City Market, 15; Miller's Supermarket, Super-market, 20; Circle K, 103; Golden Stake Restaurant and Travelodge Motel, 15; Ra-mada Ra-mada Inn and Restaurant, 38; Greenwell Motel and Restaurant, 10; Apache Motel and Restaurant, 15; Gaither Chevrolet, 20; Peterson Pe-terson Ford, 53; Canyonlands Canyon-lands Auto Parts, 30; Motor Parts, 15; Slickrock Campgrounds, Camp-grounds, 25; Thompsons Body Shop, 25; Grand Tire Co., 25; Miller's Clothing Store, 25; Family Budget Clothing, 20; Sundowner, 25; Rim Rock Flowers, 25; Gift Shop Jewelers, 18; Moab Lumber Co., 35; and E&E Sports, 20. Phillips 66 bulk plant reported sales the same as last year, but added that they had record business last year. Other areas of increases included 100 new water connections (not including Campark hookups counted as one), 30 new trailers moved into Holiday Haven and 75 new houses built. Rev. Sandy Hampton, Vicar of Episcopal Church of St. Francis, was the guest speaker of the day. He discussed the current trends in religious areas of instutionalized churches. chur-ches. He felt that within the last few years there has been ' a tremendous growth in traditional conservative chur ches. He said, "The main-line Christian denominations are showing greater concern today for the quality, rather than quanity of faith. They are more interested in the personal experience of faith than just the filling of the pews on Sunday." He also included three other trends: a growing awareness of the wide variety of talents within Chrisianity; the acceptance that the ministry minis-try is a shared responsibility; and the mission teaching of the gospel within the framework frame-work of a culture. |
