Show Republican Convention Set Here Saturday Twenty-four candidates for state and national office are eipected to be in Moab Saturday for the Grand County . Republican nominating con-! con-! vention, it was announced this week by Connie Caouette, wnty GOP chairman. The neeting will begin at 10 a.m. the Grand County Courtroom. Court-room. Delegates selected recently J "tmass meetings in Moab will listen to short expressions from the candidates, and then iU proceed to ballot on local wunty commission races; and W'H ratify state delegates designated from various distorts dis-torts at mass meeting time. Balloting for the four-year "ity commission slot will be between incumbent Harvey Merrell and challenger N11ie S. Beyeler. For the two nt post, it will be between Wney L. Dalton and Leo ter Burr. If winners in either of the two races receives "70 percent of the delegate ,01s. the loser will be 'Nnated, and no primary 'Wion contest will be retired. re-tired. Also to be selected will be the Grand County Republican Central Committee. Mr. Caouette stated that he is expecting a large turnout of delegates, since the number of out-of-town candidates will be so large. Those expected to be in Moab Saturday are: For U.S. Senate: Sherman P. Lloyd, Jack Carlson, Desmond Des-mond Barker, Clinton R. Miller and Orrin Hatch. For U.S. Representative: Steven Nielson, Joe Ferguson and Calvin Black. For Governor: Stanley M. Smoot, Vernon B. Romney, and Dixie L. Leavitt. For Lt. Governor: David S. Monson and William E. Dunn. For Attorney general: Loren D. Martin and Robert B. Hansen. For State Auditor: Richard Jensen and Duane Beck. For State Treasurer; Stan Darger, Golden Allen and Mark Haroldsen. Also expected to be in attendance will be Kenneth A. Silliman, Green River, who is unopposed in his Primary Election bid for Utah House of Representatives. Mr. Silliman will face incumbent John Garr in November. Jard Annie Griffith of the Griffith Trio will be performing venlng during the Canyonlands Rodeo.
