This would relieve those citizens belonging to the club, who are now keeping their C.B.'s tuned to the channel 2-1 hours a day. The club is a non-profit service club, licensed by React International Inc. to promote the proper and effective use of the official CB Emergency Channel 9. Their aim is to assist motorists in trouble at all hours of the day and to cooperate with all law enforcement enforce-ment agencies. An example is Charles P. McAndrews, 19, who was leaving his home in a vehicle near Canyonlands Estates when a large dog ran in front of him. In attempting to keep from running over the dog, he ran his car off the road and found himself in dense brush on the opposite side of the road. lie called for help on Channel 9 and was answered by Canyonlands React Unit number 18. He stated that he had received a bad bump on the head and was slightly dizzy but thought that he could make it to a hospital without the aid of an ambulance. The Sheriff's office was notified by phone of the occurrence and within 5 minutes help had arrived. Someone called for an ambulance ambu-lance and the boy was taken to Allen Memorial Hospital where he was treated and then kept over night for observation. observa-tion. Sheriff Bowman, who answered ans-wered the call, stated that Charles was suffering and treated for whip-lash. Bowman also said that the car was able to be driven away under its own power after being towed out onto the road. Persons interested in joining this newly-organized club may apply by calling Mike Hardy at 259-5742. The dues are nominal, nomi-nal, $2 for the international membership and $5 for the local. To qualify a person must have a base station in his home with a telephone and must also be licensed by the F.C.C. |
