Show County says "let's wait" on sanitation district Although expressing support for a special sanitation district, in concept, the county commission Monday deferred action on establishing one because of financial timing concerns. Said Commission Chairman Leo Burr, "We're going along with it, but felt the timing was bad currently." The subject was brought up by Dixie Barker and Ron Auger, who presented a letter from the Economic Development Board urging support of a special sanitation district. In other business, a public hearing was held on the proposed establishment of a Graqnd County Special Service Water District. There were two oral and one written protest to this proposed action. County residents, however, have until August 3 to file protest, and if less than half protest the county may go ahead and establish the district. Protests should be filed with the Grand County Clerk. The county is also requesting transfer of two assignments and certificate of sale of The Highland Utility Corp. to Grand County. The water system was recently purchased by county commissioners. Royce Henningson reported that the volunteer firemen have a door-to-door campaign planned to distribute house numbers in Spanish Valley. Barbara Zimpel, veterinarian at the Spanish Valley Clinic, informed the commission that she is not interested in running a dog pound. Barbara Ozment is exploring the possibilities of building a pound and contracting with the city and county for care of stray dogs. Aty the request of Chuck and Donna Nelson the commission agreed to remove the fence between the fire station and the Nelson property. They plan to install a wooden fence. The commission informed Dahl Zohner, U. S. Forest Service, they felt sure they could come to an agreement to furnish gravel, haul and spread it at Oowah Campground. J. V. Westwood, county road supervisor, said it will take at least $8,000 for gravel, equipment and man hours to complete the project. The Forest Service will contribute $4,000 in addition. It was voted to adopt a fire prevention code ordinance recommended by the American Insurance Association. It was also voted to inform the fixed-base operator at Canyonlands Field that he must have commission permission before any fees can be charged. Senior Citizens received authorization authoriza-tion to purchase a used bass drum from Chartrand Band Instrument Service, LaSal. County Recorder Alice McKinney was authorized to hire Merlene Mosher at $2.50 per hour on a 3 to 6 month probationary period with the stipulation that the commission will make the decision as to when the probation period is over. |
