Show Highway Patrol Reports Accidents, Some Injuries $ A large number ofac-cidents ofac-cidents have been reported re-ported by Utah Highway Patrol troopers during dur-ing the Christmas holidays hol-idays and late in December, Dec-ember, according toSgt. Ralph Benson. On December 25, Ron Wood investigated a two car accident on the road to the City-County dump. The accident occurred as Peggy W. Morely, 31, was going up toward the dump and met a car driven by Howard V. Young of Casper, Wyo., who was coming down the hill. Damage totaling total-ing $500 was done to the two autos involved and Mrs. Morely was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road. Three accidents were investigated by Trooper Melvin Schiffman on December 28, with the first happening at 11:30 a.m. about 5 miles east of Thompson. Gregory Rockwood, 20, of Missouri, Miss-ouri, accompanied by Mrs. Martha P. Fisher, 80, of Idaho lost control of his 1972 MG on snow-packed snow-packed road and hit a C & M Wholesale truck driven by Larry Griggs of Kansas City, Kansas. Both Mr. Rockwood and Mrs. Fisher sustained serious injuries in the accident and were taken to Allen Memorial Hospital Hos-pital before being transferred trans-ferred to a Grand Junction Jun-ction Colorado hospital where Mrs. Fisher was reported in very critical condition. Damage listed to the Rockwood car was $1200 with $400 damage to the truck. No citations were issued. At 1:45 p.m.thatsame day, Schiffman was called cal-led to an accident 2 miles east of Thompson in which Victor L. Lee, 20, of California lost control of his 1971 Ford van and went off the road and overturned. About $900 damage was reported to the truck and no citations were issued because of the extremely ex-tremely slick conditions. cond-itions. At 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 28, Schiffman investigated investig-ated an accident 3 miles north of Moab when Josephine Jos-ephine Pehrson, Monticello; Montic-ello; swerved to miss a truck turning onto the potash road and as she attempted to correct for the swerve hit a 1969 Chevrolet driven by Glen P. Smith of Washington. Wash-ington. The Pehrson car, a 1972 Ford sustained sus-tained $150 damage and the Smith auto received $100 damage. Mr. Smith was cited for improper registration. Trooper James Sauls of Green River reported a number of accidents beginning' on December 22, about 10 miles south of Crescent Junction. The accident occurred when Don Hilliard 33, m of Moab stopped his tractor and semi-trailer on . the side of the road to fix the windshield wipers, as Hilliard began be-gan to back onto the roadway he was hit by another semi driven by Rodney Horrocks of Durango, Colorado. The Hi -Land Dairy truck driven by Horrocks sustained sus-tained $500 damage, and the C & W Contracting truck driven by Hilliard was not damaged. Because Be-cause of the heavy fog in the area at the time of the accident, no citations cit-ations were issued. Three men were injured in-jured in an accident on December 23, in Green River. The accident occurred oc-curred as the driver of a 1965 Dodge, Tony Brown, apparently fell asleep at the wheel and ran off the road, hitting a utility pole. Brown and two passengers in the car, Bennie Benally and Sam Yazzie, were taken to Allen Memorial Hospital Hos-pital for treatment. A citation for failure to keep his car under control con-trol was issued to Brown. The third accident investigated in-vestigated by Sauls occurred oc-curred on December 23, about 5 a.m. 1.5 miles west of Green River on 1-70 when Michael Sch-ecter, Sch-ecter, 19, of Pueblo, Colorado lost control of his 1972 Honda sedan, ran off the road and overturned. Both Schec-ter Schec-ter and a passenger in the car, Donald W. Hicks of California were injured in-jured and brought to Allen Al-len Memorial Hospital where they were treated and re'eased. Schecter was cited for speed too fast for existing conditions. cond-itions. December 28, Sauls investigated an accident on a dirt road south of Green River involving driven by Leonard D. Jewkes, 29, of Green River and a 1972 Chevrolet Chev-rolet Blazer driven by Jay Ekker, 23, also of Green River. This accident ac-cident occurred as Ekker Ek-ker and Jewkes slid into each other as they met on a blind curve. Damage Dam-age to the pickup was set at $200 with $300 damage to the Blazer. At 3 a.m. December 26, Powell was called to investigate an accident accid-ent which occurred 5 miles west of Crescent Junction when Ruth Pin-edo Pin-edo of California apparently ap-parently fell asleep at the wheel of her 1973 Chevrolet pickup and ran off the road and rolled over. No citations were issued. Powell was called out at 4:45 a.m. on Dec. 28, to investigate an accident ac-cident 10 miles west of Green River on 1-70. He reported that a 1972 Dodge, driven by Dallas Croashmun, 19, of Pennsylvania Pen-nsylvania which was towing another car stalled on a hill and was hit by a 1973 Chevrolet Chev-rolet camper-bus driven by William Cruikshank, 49, of Georgia, who was coming down the hill. Damage to each of the vehicles was set at $300 with Croashmun cited for failure to keep his vehicle under control.
