Show Search Near Hanksviile Conducted Air and ground search began last Wednesday evening in the Goblin Valley and Temple Mountain area north of Hanksviile for a report -ed downed aircraft. Word was brought to Hanksville's deputy sheriff, she-riff, Alvin Robison, by Jelco Construction Workers Wor-kers in the Goblin Valley Val-ley area. They reported seeing five flares about seven in the evening. The sheriff and Jelco employees returned to that area and searched until morning with no results. Wayne County and Emery County jeep possee members joined the search the following day assisted by Jim Hurst of Green River Aviation and Jimmy Du-rock Du-rock flying the Reef hunting hun-ting for wreckage. Hopes were boosted when the Grand Junction FAA received re-ceived a call from a ham radio operator who reported he was receiving receiv-ing a call from Prospectors Pros-pectors Point (now known as Temple Mountain). Moun-tain). The ham operator stated that the sender was reporting 'going down' in Utah. Another call came from Palm Springs, California from Karl Blomquist who also reported picking up a distress call Thursday afternoon south of Sal-ina Sal-ina Canyon while he was flying from Price to California Cal-ifornia at 1600 ft. He couldn't get below the clouds to check it out but called in his report. Searchers Friday found a hippy camp north of Goblin Valley and Sheriff of Emery County reportedly found 4th of July bottle rockets in their possession which they admitted to have sent off. But to this date no aircraft has been located loc-ated and the three day search was abandoned. |
