Show Pilot Killed; Fire Controlled In Dolores Triangle Area A range fire in the Spring Canyon and ; Dolores Triangle area was brought under . control Monday night about 8 p.m. after burning "hot and clean" over 250 acres of scrub oak and pinyon pine on Bureau of Land Mangement lands. A crew of 120 were used. 12 of which where from Moab, other crew members came from Boise, Allamosa, Salt Lake City and Richfield. Killed in the crash of a B26 fire bomber was Ed Jenks, 39, Vail, Colorado, as he was making a first run over the area. His plane was one of three used Sunday to battled the blaze. Two other planes returned to Salt Lake City and Grand Junction because of the air turbulence. The fire is believed to have started around 2 p.m. Sunday when lightening struck the area. Dave Engleman, a fire dispatcher in the Moab BLM office, said the fire "had a good start" by the time heavy rains fell, and it continued burning. |
