Show Retired Judge Fred Keller Dead at 84 Years Fred W. Keller, 84, Price, a retired 27-year judge in the 7th District, died September 19 in the Carbon County Hospital after a short illness. Judge Keller retired from the bench in 1968. He was first elected a district judge in 1941, and was awarded a certificate of distinguished service by the Utah Bar Assn. upon his retirement. He had been 7th District attorney for 12 years, and had served as San Juan County attorney and had practiced law in Price 4 years. Judge Keller was a member of the Utah Bar Assn. and the Southeastern Utah Bar Assn. In June 1976 he was awarded an honorary associate of arts degree from the College of Eastern Utah. , Judge Keller was also active in the cattle industry and helped formulate the rules and regulations which govern the raising of livestock on public lands. He promoted rodeos in San Juan and Carbon Counties, Coun-ties, and named the Robber's Roost Roundup, an annual rodeo in Price. He was active in the L.D.S. Church and in the Boy Scout program, and served on the commission which built the "This is the Place" Monument in Salt Lake City. Born September 18, 1892, it ' Manti to Fredrick Walter and 1 Ethel T. Clark Keller, he graduated from Manti High School and attended the University of Utah, where he graduated with an LL.B. degree in 1917. He married Mabel D. Dyreng on May 11, 1917, the day he graduated from law school in Salt Lake City. The day after their marriage he left for service in the Array in France during World War 1. He was later a member of the American Legion. , Mabel Keller died Aug. 18, 1971 and Judge Keller married Marian Carver Ferguson in : 1972 in Price. : Survivors include Mrs. Keller; Kel-ler; an ad6pted daughter, Mrs. W. J. (Erma) Scort-Maitland, Fullerton, Ca.; a ; brother, Thomas W., Granada Hills, Ca.; two sisters, Mrs. Delia Cox, Anaheim, Ca., and Mrs. Hall (Carol) Lowry, Manti; two grandchildren; and 4 stepchildren. step-children. Funeral services were Sept. 22 in Price, and the family suggested contributions to the Fred W. Keller Scholarship Scholar-ship Fund and the College of Eastern Utah. |
