Show law is not the answer The almost perennial issue of mandatory closing of business houses on Sunday has again reared its ugly head in the Utah. Legislature- this year. And although the ridiculous issue has been beaten many times over the years, within the Legislature itself, and by virtue of the Governor's veto, the record is going to have to be played again in 1967. Although it appears that business interests, and not religious groups, are pushing the measure this year, it is sure to become embroiled in religious and morality turmoil before it is disposed of one way or another. Halo-shrouded lawmakers wfho believe morality problems such as this can be dealt with through statutes, sta-tutes, don't seem to realize that they never really stop the thing they are attempting to stop merely take away personal rights from those who are not dishonest enough to work around silly laws.- It is to be hoped that this, and other similar issues, meet with violent deaths in the next few weeks of legislative action. , |
