Show Bid Wheels of the Sea NEW YORK The largest propellers ever made for a twin screw passenger ship in the United States are shown here enroute from Stuten Island to Quincy, Mass., where they will be installed on the new 1,000 passenger liner S.S. Constitution. Each of these giant propellers, pro-pellers, one of which is shown in transit aboard a Fruehauf Platform Trailer, weighs 64,500 pounds and has a diameter of 19 feet 6 inches. The cone shaped object is a fairwater cap which is mounted on the end of the propeller shaft for streamlining. The S.S. Constitution and a sister ship S.S. Independence are now under construction at Quincy. |
