W Perkins Perkins Per Per- Perkins kins and William Flynn but if he talked platitudes twenty-four twenty hours a day from now till November he would not win very many Progressives whose hearts were really in the Progressive platform of 1912 The original Progressive Progressive Progressive Pro Pro- platform had something besides amiable nonsense in it it got votes by stating principles principles not not as Hughes would do by avoiding them There may be nothing the matter with Hughes' Hughes notions of social Justice He ma may refuse in a pinch to take program from Wall Vall street or elsewhere But how is anybody to know this if he wont won't tell Why should the public believe the myth that he is a strong progressive minded man if in his first and most important speech he timidly avoids committing himself on the I very subjects in which the people are most interested |
