A PARTY TICKET To bo early ia the field. for the mu nicipal election next November, member mem-ber of th local Socialist party are meeting is caucus this afternoon at the Building Trades hall ia the old Commercial Com-mercial club building for the purpose of recommending a eity ticket, majnor, four commissioners and aa auditor, as provided by the commisaioo form of government, adopted by the recent legislature. leg-islature. Temporary organization has been effected ef-fected with J. A. Smith, permanent chairman, and H. . Zenger, permanent secretary. A platform will be adopted this afternoon and committees on resolutions, reso-lutions, order of business and credentials creden-tials will be heard from, before those to be considered as probable candidates for the municipal election are decided upon. The only light looked for thia afternoon' after-noon' will probably be made on the qualifications of those being considered as possible candidate for mavor and commissioners. It is provided by the Socialists' constitution that gny one seeking office must have been a dues paying member of the order for at least one year before announcing himself a candidate for office. It seems now that there ere several likely looking candidates candi-dates who have not been Socialiata quite long enough to qualify them for office, and whether or not such men shall be allowed to run for office is oae of the questions to be decided at today's convention. Among other things the platform to be adopted this afternoon provides for municipal ownership of all public utilities utili-ties and for tie abolition of nil contract con-tract labor on municipal works. This means that all citv work will- be done by the city, the profits from such work, if any, to revert to the city's treasury or to go to increase the wages of the men doing the work. Unlesa a! the primaries the Socialists get first or second place in the selection of tickets, local Socialists will not vote at all. This feature of their constitution, constitu-tion, it ia held, prevents the possibility of "jobbing.' |
