Show BLAME EMPLOYS FOR TRAIN WRECK Three employees of the Oregon Short Line are held responsible for the headon collision between two freight trains at Downey, Ida., on the nlaht of July 1. when three employees of the company were slightly Injured and over $3ihm worth of railroad property was destroyed. The board of Inquiry was composed of P. J. Moran of Rait Ike City, who rep-reaented rep-reaented the public In the Investigation; A. K. Brewer, superintendent of the Utah division of the Oregon Short IJne; M. A. Pond H. J. Harris. George Roes and O. B. Chalmers, assistant superintendents for the eompanv. The board finds that the accident, which waa a headon collision between extra west 756 and train No. 79, cant bound, waa due to the carelessness of Conductor Conduc-tor J. O. Phillips In falling to see that the head end of his train was properly protected; that Engineer Albert Beaton Is responsible because he failed to whistle out a flag to protect the head end of his train: and that Fireman J. H. Newey Is responsible for falling to flag and thus protect the head end of hla train. |
