Show DIEHL'S COMPANIONS TESTIFY IN TRIAL Two witnesses were placed on the stand for the defense- yesterday afternoon after-noon in the ease of the state against Gladys Whitney, charged with having stolen diamonds valued at more than 7000 from J. 1). Diehl in thia city last September. C. McCarthy testified that he was with Diehl and several others at the Rathskeller when Diehl met the Whitney Whit-ney girl and that later he accompanied hm .n hj Matrnnnle hotel, where the jobber. U alleged to hava been, com mitted. The witness said that Diehl did not appear to be sick at that time, and that he paid for beer which was taken into tha hotel. Earl Aldrieh, another member of the party, was placed on the stand and testified that Diehl appeared to he under the influence influ-ence of liquor, but that be did not seem exactly aick. James MrParland, western superintendent superin-tendent of the Pinkerton detective agenev. was' placed on the stand to identify certain diamonds which are alleged al-leged to hava been secured from W. C. Douglas, to whose home the Whitnev woman is alleged to have gone after the robbery. The case went over until Monday. |
